Philosophy

Pia’s own education was diverse and multi-faceted. She attended Montessori school as a young child, then attended The Nightingale Bamford School in New York City for elementary school. For middle and high school she had the opportunity to attend a unique boarding school in Southern India. Drawing from her range of experiences, Pia believes that students learn best by doing. While attending Barnard College and susbequently receiving two degrees from Bank Street College she was able to further develop her understanding of a constructivist, child-centered philosophy.

In her work with students (children and adults), Pia seeks to individualize her programs to meet the unique needs of each and every learner. Her primary goal, in addition to supporting each student’s learning,  is to help them understand how they learn best. She helps them build their metacognition (thinking about one’s thinking) and develop a toolkit of strategies to use.

Pia also works with families and offers meetings and workshops on numerous topics including, but not limited to executive functioning, student’s individual learning profiles and setting up organizational systems.

Pia seeks inspiration from her fellow educators, psychologists, researchers and her students!
