Pia has been an educator since 1997. After graduating from Barnard College she began her career as a classroom teacher at The Dalton School. Pia then sought to develop her skills as a literacy coach. Susbequently, she became interested in teaching students mathematics and worked as a math specialist at Dwight-Englewood School. Realizing that what intrigued her most, was how students make sense of concepts in all content areas, she decided to return to Bank Street College to get an advanced masters in Special Education. Since 2008, Pia has worked at a number of independent schools and as an adjunct professor at Bank Street College of Education teaching graduate students. Pia has also completed a 14 hour mentorship through the Association of Educational Therapists and is a professional member of AET. Currently, Pia is focusing her work on her private students in the areas of math, literacy, organization and study skills and metacognition. Helping students understand themsevels as learners is central to Pia’s mission.
